Violet Wiedenmann, a cherished mother, grandmother, and friend, peacefully passed away on July 27, 2026, in Iowa City, IA, at the age of 96. Born on March 26, 1930, in Geneseo, IL, Violet lived a life full of love, dedication, and service to her family and community.

Violet graduated from Geneseo High School and later earned a degree in Education from Illinois State University. She embarked on a career as a teacher, nurturing young minds in physical education and health at John Deere Elementary School in East Moline, IL. After five years, she chose to dedicate herself fully to her family as a homemaker and mother, where her love and care enriched the lives of her children.

On June 10, 1956, Violet married Lynn Wiedenmann in Geneseo, IL. Together, they shared 54 wonderful years of marriage until his passing on September 10, 2011. Their union was blessed with children who carry forward their legacy of love and commitment.

Violet lived with an outgoing, self-confident spirit and a wonderful sense of humor that drew others to her. She loved Big Ten sports and was an avid fan of women’s basketball, especially enjoying watching Caitlin Clark. She took great pride in cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes as well as local high school teams and never missed a school activity involving her grandchildren. Violet also enjoyed playing bridge at many local clubs, where she formed lasting friendships. She found great joy in game shows, particularly Jeopardy!, Wheel of Fortune, and The Price Is Right, which brought her many hours of entertainment. She also cherished time spent hosting family gatherings, especially the many after-church lunches she warmly welcomed into her home.

She was deeply involved in her community, actively participating in the King's Daughter Organization, particularly its thrift shop, and the United Women of Faith at her church. Her talents in needlepoint and cross-stitching were well known, and she delighted in crafting. Violet also enjoyed traveling with her beloved husband, Lynn, on Elderhostel trips, where they formed many lasting friendships.

Violet was a devoted member of Christ United Methodist Church in East Moline, where she forged strong bonds through her faith and service.

Preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Lillian Souers; her husband, Lynn G. Wiedenmann; and daughters, Cheryl Preston and Karen Wiedenmann, Violet leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. She is survived by her son, Jeffrey Wiedenmann of Orion, IL; her daughter, Susan (Mark) Newsome of Cary, NC; and treasured grandchildren, Matthew Newsome, Andrew Wiedenmann, and Courtney Wiedenmann.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, from 9 am to 11 am at Christ United Methodist Church, East Moline, IL, with a service to follow at 11 am. Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery, Moline, IL. Memorials may be made to Christ United Methodist Church, East Moline, IL.

Violet Wiedenmann will be remembered for her warmth, humor, and unwavering devotion to her family and community. Her spirit lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
