Listen to Obituary

Shirley Sandler, a beloved homemaker and cherished matriarch, passed away peacefully at her home in Moline, Illinois, on October 22, 2025. Born on January 21, 1939, in Luverne, Minnesota, to William and Pearl (Rasche) Schneekloth, Shirley's life was a testament to the virtues of love, care, and devotion.

A graduate of Moline High School, class of 1957, Shirley was known for her caring and loving personality. She radiated warmth and was always welcoming to those around her, forming deep connections with family and friends. Her spirit shone brightly, characterized by her fierce loyalty to her loved ones. Shirley married the love of her life, Lee Sandler, on January 9, 1959, in Moline. Together, they built a life filled with joy and laughter until Lee's passing.

Shirley was a proud mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who found her greatest accomplishments in her family. Her daughter, Kim (Jim) Moran, along with her grandchildren—Jon (Keisha) Douglas, Matt (Vanessa) Douglas, Julie Moran, Eric (Kelly) Moran, and Brian (Kelly) Moran—represented the heart and soul of her life. She was blessed with seven great-grandchildren, all of whom brought her immeasurable pride and happiness. Shirley was a frequent attendee of their sports games and events, cheering them on with enthusiasm and showcasing the genuine support that was the hallmark of her role as a grandmother.

In addition to her family life, Shirley harbored a zest for adventure and enjoyed many hobbies. She loved watching scary movies and relished her memorable trip to Memphis to visit Elvis' estate. Las Vegas held a special place in her heart, as she made numerous trips there throughout her life. Yet, it was the simple expressions of love she shared with her family that defined her. Every day, and often multiple times throughout the day, Shirley would remind her loved ones how much she adored them.

She is survived by her devoted daughter, Kim (Jim) Moran of Moline; her cherished grandchildren; and her seven great-grandchildren. Shirley also leaves behind her beloved sister, Connie Evans, as well as many nieces and nephews who will fondly remember her loving spirit.

She was preceded in death by her dear husband, Lee Sandler; her parents; her brother, Eugene Schneekloth; her sister-in-laws, Shirley Schneekloth and Mary Sandler, as well as her brother-in-laws, Duane Sandler and John Evans.
