Listen to Obituary

Sandra Seeley Copley (Makoben) of Blue Grass, Iowa, died peacefully on November 1, 2025, in Wilton. She leaves behind her husband, John Copley; her daughter, Amy Seeley; her son, Jason Seeley; her bonus daughters, Michelle Webb, Lisa Trumbo, and Rachel Hibbs; sons-in-law, Michael Ross, Matt Trumbo, Mike Hibbs, and Chris Webb; and daughter-in-law, Janelle Seeley; grandchildren, David Seeley, Emily Seeley, Reagan Webb, Trenton Trumbo, Tyler Webb, Hayes Trumbo, Cameron Harrison, Hayden Harrison; sister, Mary Chrysler; sister-in-law, Carolyn Makoben; nephew, Eric Makoben; and niece, Jen Lopez.

Sandra Jean “Sandy” Makoben was born in Davenport, Iowa. She was raised in Durant and graduated from Durant High School, where she cheered as the school mascot, Willie the Wildcat.

She graduated from Sterling School of Cosmetology, earned her license in 1964, and quickly began her career as a professional cosmetologist, joining Sherry’s Tint & Tone in Davenport. In 1968, she married David “Sid” Seeley, residing with him in Moline. By 1969, she was working full-time at Queen’s Parlour Salon in Moline, Illinois.

She successfully juggled being a mother of two with her full-time, award-winning career. She achieved her Hair America membership in the early ’80s, which allowed her to become an educator traveling throughout the Midwest, teaching hair design, color techniques, precision cuts, and advanced hairstyling. Sandra won and placed in countless hairstyling competitions and spent her career sharing her talents with others. Her techniques and approach to hair design will live on in the thousands of students she has trained over the past four decades.

Sandra bought Queen’s Parlour Salon in 2000, where she continued her passion for creating dynamic hairstyles for her loyal clients, whom she considered family. In 2003, Sandra married John Copley of Eldridge, proudly blending their two families. Sandra actively served on several non-profits, including Pink Pajama Party, Bikes For Brains, Look Good/Feel Better, and Angel Tree of the Quad Cities. She was also active in her church, All Saints Episcopal. She was an educator and product representative for John Amico Hair Care of Chicago, with whom she earned several prestigious industry awards.

Over the past several years, the Lake of the Ozarks became her second home, which she enjoyed with her loving spouse, John, and many family members and friends. Sandra delighted in travel, live music, and theater, as well as longstanding inside jokes, her beloved Iowa Hawkeyes, and finding joy in every moment.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Ima Makoben; her first husband, Sid Seeley; her brother, Larry Makoben; and her grandson, Trevor Trumbo.

A visitation will be held from 4 pm to 6 pm on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, at Wendt Funeral Home, Moline, IL.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Children’s Therapy Center of the Quad Cities, where Sandra served as a longstanding board member.
