Roger Edward Lammers, 70, of Colona, IL, passed away on November 24, 2025. He was born on March 1, 1955, in Savanna, IL, to Robert and Marjorie Lammers. The youngest of four children, Roger spent his early years immersed in the outdoors, fishing, exploring, and finding joy in the simple beauty around him. He grew up in Savanna and graduated from Savanna High School in 1973.
Roger began his career at Eagle Foods Warehouse in December 1973. On July 1, 1978, he married the love of his life, Ruth Smith. Together, they shared 47 years of marriage marked by gentle teasing, deep devotion, and unwavering love as they raised their two children, Tim and Melissa, and their oldest grandson, Jason.
Roger worked at Eagle Foods until the company closed in 2003, proudly retiring as the final employee to walk out its doors. Over his long and dedicated tenure, he served in many roles, including forklift operator, picker, and janitorial staff, always willing to step in wherever he was needed. After Eagles closed, he continued working various jobs and quickly became known as a gifted handyman who could fix almost anything. Hardworking by nature, Roger took great pride in every task he undertook and could outwork nearly anyone beside him.
Roger enjoyed fishing, tackling countless projects, and staying involved in his children’s activities. He also had a gift for music—able to sing along to almost any song after hearing only a few words, often adding his own “Weird Al–style” lyrics to bring laughter to those around him.
His faith was a central part of his life. A devoted WELS Lutheran, Roger was a member of St. Peter’s, Gethsemane, and St. Paul’s Lutheran Churches. He generously offered his time and talents for church groundskeeping and any task that needed a willing hand.
In his later years, Roger found enjoyment in scrapping metal and helping clean out estates, always happy to stay busy and lend support wherever he could.
Roger is survived by his wife, Ruth Lammers; his children, Melissa Nowland (Jeff) and Tim Lammers (Catie); and his grandchildren, Jason Lammers, Adrienne Kelsey, Zackery Kelsey, Anthony Lammers, Sofia Tupis, and Kylie Lammers. He is also survived by his sisters, Phyllis Richert and Janice (Peter) Goebel; several nieces and nephews, and a sister-in-law, Rebecca Lammers.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Marjorie Lammers, and his brother, David Lammers.
A visitation will be held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 153 19th Ave, Moline, IL, from 10 am - 12 pm, with a service immediately following at noon on Monday, December 1, 2025. Pastor Luke Thomford will officiate. A procession to the burial will follow the service, which will take place at Greenview Memorial Garden, 1201 Avenue of the Cities, East Moline, IL. All are welcome to attend any or all parts of the services honoring Roger’s life. Memorials may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Moline.
