Mary Ann Vogelsang, a loving mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully on May 26, 2026, at Heritage Woods of Moline. Born on September 17, 1958, in Rock Island, Illinois, Mary Ann's life was a testament to dedication, family values, and an unfailing spirit.
A proud graduate of Rock Island High School, Mary Ann began her journey as a devoted mother and homemaker, placing her family's well-being and happiness above all else. Her nurturing nature was evident not only in the warmth she brought to her home but also in the care she selflessly provided for her mother, Mary (Fisher) Talbot, and her mother's husband. Later, Mary Ann expanded her professional horizons by managing fast food enterprises for many years, bringing the same commitment and competitive drive to her career.
Those who knew Mary Ann remember her as a welcoming presence with a fiercely competitive streak, someone who found great joy in creating lasting memories with her loved ones. Her passions reflected her vibrant spirit: she delighted in hosting family get-togethers, cheering for the Chicago Bears, and spending peaceful moments fishing. Her love for baking, especially during the Christmas season, was legendary; her kitchen would overflow with a rich assortment of sweets that brought happiness to countless family celebrations.
Mary Ann shared a life filled with love alongside her husband, Gregory Vogelsang, who preceded her in death, and their children. Though she mourned the loss of her daughter, Melissa Charlton, her enduring legacy lives on through her surviving children: Michael Talbot (Melanie Hughes), Stacey (Joe) Grimstad, Johnna Charlton (Jason Mitchell), Samantha Charlton, and Jay Steines. She was a proud grandmother to 14 grandchildren and a great-grandmother to 6 great-grandchildren, all of whom brought immense joy to her life. In addition to her husband and daughter, she was preceded in death by her father, Harry Talbot. Her mother, Mary (Fisher) Talbot; her best friend, Cindy Ockensels Ward; her brothers, Rodney and Gary Talbot; and several nieces and nephews also remember her fondly.
Mary Ann's final days were surrounded by the love of her close-knit family, a reflection of the life she led—full of compassion, strength, and an unwavering devotion to those she treasured. As we say goodbye, we hold close the memory of a remarkable woman who gave so much and asked for so little in return.
Friends and family are invited to honor Mary Ann’s life at a visitation held on May 31, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Wendt Funeral Home, 1811 15th Street Place, Moline, Illinois. Her funeral service will be held on June 1, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at the same location. Interment will follow the service at Chippiannock Cemetery in Rock Island.
Mary Ann Vogelsang leaves behind a legacy marked by warmth, resilience, and love, a beacon to all who knew her and a treasure for generations to come. She will be deeply missed but forever held in the hearts of her family and friends.
