Marlene Evelyn Bland, born on August 27, 1935, in Rock Island, Illinois, passed away peacefully on December 12, 2025, in Davenport, Iowa. A beloved matriarch, Marlene was known for her vibrant personality and her unwavering dedication to her family and friends.

Marlene pursued her education with determination, graduating from Rock Island High School before furthering her studies at Black Hawk College and Augustana College, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in Criminal Law. She dedicated her professional life to hard work, first at International Harvester (IH) on the assembly line until its closure, and subsequently at Rainbow School until her retirement.

A true people person, Marlene had an infectious laugh and a heart of gold. She took immense joy in making those around her smile, and her family was at the center of her world. Marlene’s love extended beyond her immediate family, encompassing friends and acquaintances alike, establishing connections that enriched her life and the lives of others.

Marlene's hobbies reflected her spirited nature; she was an exceptional pool player, enjoyed bowling, darts, and cards—especially euchre—and actively participated in leagues throughout the Quad Cities. Her competitive spirit and camaraderie brought joy to many.

Her family remembers her for her unwavering support and the joy she found in everyday moments. She is survived by her children, Nita Bland, Rita Bland, Jay Bland, Neil Bland, and Marlee Bland; eleven grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins who will forever cherish her memory. Marlene was preceded in death by her caring parents, Thomas and Leola (Anderson) Bland, as well as her brothers Troy, Tommy, and Fred, and sisters Gertrude, Vernell, Kathleen, and Jane.

Marlene lived by the saying, “give me twenty until I see Benny,” a testament to her spirited and humorous approach to life. Her legacy of laughter and love will be remembered, and she will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Visitation services will be held at Wendt Funeral Home in Moline, Illinois, on Saturday, December 20, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at the same location starting at 12:00 PM.

Her warmth and kindness will continue to light the lives of those she touched throughout her remarkable journey.

Family and friends are invited to share memories and condolences on her memory page at www.wendtfuneralhome.com.
