IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Leora J.
DeBruine

Graveside Service
Greenview Memorial Gardens
11:00 - 11:30 am (Central time)
Leora J. DeBruine, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on February 13, 2026, at UnityPoint Health-Trinity Bettendorf Hospital in Bettendorf, Iowa. She was born on July 1, 1925, in Colona, Illinois, to Fred and Nina (Kellums) Leibee. Leora's life was one of love, kindness, and unwavering compassion, traits that endeared her to everyone she met.
Leora graduated from United Township High School in 1943, and in June of 1949, she married her beloved husband, Alphonse DeBruine, who preceded her in death on December 27, 2023. Together, they created a nurturing environment for their family, celebrating every moment with joy and pride. Leora's greatest accomplishment was her family, whom she cherished above all else.
In her professional life, she worked as a secretary at John Deere for several years and later found happiness at Burgrave's Grocery Store in Green Rock. There, she relished the chance to connect with friends, family, and community members—a true embodiment of her generous spirit. Her dedication to her community extended beyond her career; she was actively involved in the PTA during her son’s grade school years and devoted 25 years to teaching Sunday school at First Baptist Church in Silvis, Illinois.
Leora was well-known for her loving disposition, always kind and empathetic, never complaining even in the face of challenges. Her hobbies included reading her Bible, knitting, and decorating her home, especially during the Christmas season when she showcased a large village display. She took great pride in wrapping gifts beautifully, creating presents that looked professionally done. She was also famous for her homemade brownies and chocolate pudding, which delighted family and friends alike.
In her later years, her family grew, bringing her immense joy. She leaves behind her son, Vance (Carolyn) DeBruine; grandchildren, Heather DeBruine, Matt (Morgan) DeBruine, Nicole (Alex) Dietrich, and Brandon (Laura) DeBruine; along with great-grandsons, Caleb DeBruine, Wyatt, Robert, Jackson Dietrich, and Landon DeBruine. Leora is also survived by two nieces and two nephews who will forever remember her legacy of love and kindness.
She joins in eternal rest her parents, Fred and Nina Leibee; her siblings, twin sisters Rosalee Boens and Marcalee Turner; her daughter, Vallery DeBruine; and her devoted husband, Alphonse DeBruine.
Leora's memory lives on in the hearts of those who knew her, and her legacy of love and generosity will continue to inspire future generations.
A graveside service will be held in Leora’s honor on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Greenview Memorial Gardens in East Moline, Illinois. Memorials may be made to the Honor Flight, a cause especially meaningful to her, as her husband was a World War II veteran and she deeply appreciated the joy and recognition this organization brings to those who have served.
