Joyce Tew, a beloved mother, grandmother, and devoted wife, passed away on December 14, 2025, at UnityPoint Hospital in Rock Island, Illinois. Born on March 22, 1938, in Linden, North Carolina, to Carlie and Odell (Bradshaw) Norris.
Joyce was married to Pernon Tew on March 25, 1970, and together they built a life filled with love and laughter. Joyce led a fulfilling life characterized by her unwavering devotion to her family and her cherished role as a homemaker. Originally from North Carolina, they moved to the Quad Cities in 1992 to be closer to their son, and Joyce embraced their new home with open arms, making it the center of her family's universe. Known as a dedicated mother to her three boys, Jerry (Pam Galvin) Wolking, Lynn (Melissa) Wolking, and Ricky (Dawn Burkett) Wolking, Joyce nurtured their passions and supported them through every endeavor.
Joyce was not only a guiding light to her children but also a cherished sister to Tyrone Norris and Shirley Long. Her legacy extends to her grandchildren, including Aleah Wolking, Alex Wolking, Courtney Wolking, Zach Wolking, Sean Wolking, and Ziggy Wolking, as well as her two great-grandchildren, Isabelle and Clara White. Each of them carries forward the warmth and values she instilled in them.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Tyrone Norris.
With a personality that radiated sweetness and joy, Joyce was known for her infectious laughter and strong loyalty to friends and family. Her interests included cooking, gardening, and decorating their home, particularly during the Christmas season, where her efforts were so exceptional that she earned awards for her festive displays.
As we remember Joyce, we celebrate her love for life and family. Her presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Visitation will be held at Wendt Funeral Home, located at 1811 15th Street Place, Moline, IL, on December 18, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, followed by a Funeral Service at 1:00 PM. The burial will take place at Rock Island National Cemetery.
