Herbert Edward Allen, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 11, 2025, in Rock Island, Illinois. Born on March 5, 1939, in Moline, Illinois, Herbert led a life filled with warmth, laughter, and a passion for his work and family.

Herbert dedicated 29 years of his career to Lockheed Air Terminal, followed by 10 years at Yorkville Glass, showcasing his strong work ethic and commitment. He proudly served in the Air Force for four years at Edwards Air Force Base, where he worked on planes, solidifying his lifelong fascination with aviation.

An outgoing personality, Herbert cherished spending time with his family, especially during the holidays. He created beautiful memories, notably setting up his train collection beneath the Christmas tree and sharing his love for planes with those around him. His enthusiasm for airplanes and trains was evident, and he found joy in both watching them and discussing their intricacies.

Herbert’s commitment to family extended to his wife, Linda (Lessman) Allen, with whom he shared 53 wonderful years. He is survived by his children: Melody (Angelo) Minneci, Herbert R Allen, Edward Allen, and Linda (Tom) Stancato. Additionally, he took pride in his grandchildren: Angelo (Shannon) Minneci, Christopher Minneci, Michael Wankowski, Steven (McKenna) Wankowski, Sara Wankowski, Katie Stancato, Amber Allen, Hayden Allen, and Stephanie Crafton. His legacy also continues through his nephew and nieces: Cheryl (Carl) Brownell, Mary Morrison, Cara Allen, and Carrie Cahill.

Herbert's proudest accomplishments included participating in the Honor Flight in 2023, where he relished the experience, particularly enjoying a visit to a plane museum that resonated with his past work in the Air Force.

He was preceded in death by his father, Edward R. Allen; his mother, Pauline Allen; his brothers, Charles Allen and Richard Allen; his sister-in-law, Bernadette Allen; and his son, Donald Crafton. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
