Harry Winter Warhurst, 98, passed away peacefully on May 6, 2025, at Kahl Home in Davenport, IA. Visitation will be held on May 20th at 1:00 p.m. at Wendt Funeral Home in Moline. Funeral services will be held following visitation at 2:00 p.m. Interment with military honors will follow at the Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline, immediately following the service. Memorials may be made to the Friends of Moline Parks and Recreation Foundation.

Harry was born in Ponca City, OK, on May 10, 1926, son of Alma and Cary. At the young age of 18, he proudly joined the military service. Although his first choice was to join the U.S. Air Corps, he honorably served in the U.S. Army. He gallantly fought in World War II, receiving several medals, including the Purple Heart, after being wounded in battle. Harry was also a career civil service employee at the Rock Island Arsenal, retiring in 1983 as the Foreman of the Weld Shop. Harry was a very proud veteran and civil servant.

Upon returning from the war, Harry met and married his wife, Helen Sorg, in Laurel, MT, in 1949. They moved and settled in Moline, IL, where they raised their family, including five children. She preceded him in death on July 5, 2010.

Harry was an avid reader and loved to travel, including many trips across the country to visit family. He was a meticulous gardener, a home improvement guru, and could build and fix anything. Harry was adventurous and always up for anything. He was a huge Moline High School sports fan, especially basketball. He loved his time walking the paths and enjoying the lagoon at Prospect Park.

Family was key to Harry's life. He is survived by many loving family members, daughter Nola Minear (William), son Bruce (Rita), son Scott (Patricia), daughter Connie Myers

(Jonathan), daughter Jody Lovell (Stephen); 8 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Helen; parents; sister Alma Liggett (Clarence); brothers Wallace (Emily) and Elmer (Barbara).

Family and friends are invited to share memories and express condolences to the family on his Memory Page at wendtfuneralhome.com.
