Gloria (Glo) Julia Mahieu

Gloria Julia Mahieu, age 89, passed away peacefully at home on October 8th, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. A private celebration of her life will be held in her memory. 

Gloria was born on May 8, 1936, in Moline, Illinois, to Joseph and Valetta Lopez. In 1959, she married Kenneth P. Mahieu, and together they were blessed with three cherished children: Leslie, Gregory, and Charlene. 

With a heart for service and a warm, welcoming spirit, Gloria worked as a waitress for over 50 years—a career that reflected her genuine love for people. She also co-owned and operated the B&K Root Beer stand in Moline, Illinois, and later, the Fillmore Inn in Davenport, Iowa. Her hard work, dedication, and kind nature left a lasting impression on all who knew her. 

Outside of her work, Gloria found joy in the simple pleasures of life—visiting with family and friends over coffee and a cream cheese danish, snuggling with her beloved cats, and indulging in her favorite crime and mystery television shows. 

Above all, Gloria was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her love for her family was unconditional, and her presence brought warmth and comfort to every gathering. Her many feline companions throughout the years also held a special place in her heart. 

Gloria’s legacy of kindness, strength, and unwavering love will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. 

Gloria is survived by her children Leslie (Micheal) Thrasher, Charlene (Kevin) Rebello, and Gregory (Susan) Mahieu; her grandchildren Adam (Sarah) Kettler, Brandon Kettler, Sarah Rebello, Elizabeth (Jeremy) Sampson, Matthew Rebello, Daniel Rebello, Anthony Mahieu, Christopher (Kelly) Mahieu, Gregory (Jess) Mahieu, Curtis (Bronwyn) Mahieu, Zachary Mahieu, and Jinnie Mahieu; and her great grandchildren Alison (Christopher) Holmes, Jessica (Vincent) Klauer, and Nicole (Alexander Howell) Kettler, Brody Kettler, Logan Kettler, Micheal Rebello, Madelyn Rebello, Maxton Sampson, Lily Mahieu, Olivier Mahieu, Bradly Mahieu, Grayson Mahieu, Adalyn Mahieu, Isabella Mahieu; and her siblings Armida, Jozette, Francis, and Margo. She is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Valetta Lopez, and Siblings Joseph Jr., Richard, MaryJo, Gabriel, Carmen, MaDonna, Benedict, and Gregory.
