George Baxa, 79, of Aledo, IL, passed away on February 10, 2023, at the University of Iowa Hospitals.


Services will be Friday, February 17, 2023, at 11:00 am, at Edgewood Baptist Church, Rock Island, with a two-hour visitation before the service from 9:00 am - 11:00 am. Burial will be in Rock Island National Cemetery, with Military Honors accorded.


Memorials may be made to the family for a fund to be established for the grandchildren.


George was born in Quincy, IL, on November 13, 1943, to George and Pearl (Kurfman) Baxa Sr. He married Carol Baxa on July 27, 1968, in Colchester, IL., who preceded him in death.


George graduated from Quincy High School in 1961. After graduating, he enlisted in the U.S. Marines for six years, serving in Vietnam during that time. George attended Western Illinois University from 1967 to 1972, receiving a B.A. in Industrial Technology. George worked at Montgomery Elevator until 1998 when he retired. After retirement, he did consulting around the country.


He was a member of Edgewood Baptist Church, serving on the board of trustees and Merco, V.F.W. Post 1571 as past Commander and Quarter Master. George loved spending time with his wife and family while enjoying fishing, target shooting, camping, hiking, and the outdoors. He enjoyed talking to people and never met a stranger.


Survivors include daughters Angela K.(Jim) Sheese, Moline, IL, and Krista A. Baxa, Aledo, IL; sons George (Belinda) Baxa III, Morris, IL, Thomas (Erin) Baxa, Bettendorf, IA, and Michael C. (Sybil) Baxa, Flossmoor, IL; grandchildren, Torey, Kaitlynn, and Rebekah Baxa, James and Karol Sheese, Noah, Liam, Zane, and Quin Baxa, Josephine, and Alexandria Baxa; step-grandchildren Abby and Molly Kennis; sister Linda (Tony) Messent, Seattle, WA.
