Florence Mary Twing, 91, of Moline, IL, died Monday, November 1,2010, at Friendship Manor in Rock Island IL. Private graveside services will be held. Arrangements are being handled by Wendt Funeral Home in Moline. Burial will be in the Neponset cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimers Foundation or to the Quad City Animal Welfare Center. Florence Mary Johnson was born in DeKalb, IL, on October 23, 1919, to Charles and Pearl (Weber) Johnson. She was a graduate of Davenport Central High School in Davenport, IA. On October 23, 1938, in Davenport, she married Lester Charles Twing, who preceded her in death on July 9, 1973. She was a home maker, and after raising her family, she cared for other children, from 1985 until her retirement in 2000, in the home of Douglas and Patti Burke. She was a long-time member of PTA, a member of First Congregational Church in Moline, and the Gleaners Guild. Survivors include: three daughters: Marjorie (Butch) Lea of Milan, IL, Sandra (Mike) Sowers Gulf Shores, AL, and Cheryl Twing of Moline; two sons: Lyman (Phyllis) Twing of Moline and Jeffrey (Audrey) Twing of West Liberty, IA; twelve grandchildren, and sixteen great-grandchildren.
