Ernest E. "Ernie" Rushing, born on December 18, 1944, in Woodhull, IL, passed away peacefully at Celebrate of Moline in Moline, IL, on September 11, 2026, at the age of 81.

A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Ernie was known for his kind heart, infectious humor, and unwavering dedication to those he loved. After graduating from Cambridge High School, Ernie proudly served his country in the United States Navy for two years. After his service, he pursued a diverse career as a photographer, insurance salesman, and property manager until his well-deserved retirement.

Ernie's passions were as varied as his talents. A devoted fan of the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago Bears, he celebrated victories and endured losses with equal fervor. His love for music filled his home with joy. Beyond his love of sports and music, Ernie enjoyed entering online contests of all kinds and was thrilled to win a variety of prizes over the years. He also loved to bake and cook for his family, sharing his delicious creations with those he loved. His family and friends treasured his sense of humor and could always count on him for a joke or playful remark.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Byrel and Eunice (Frost) Rushing; his brothers, Wayne, Glenn, and Bob; his sister, Rose; his stepdaughter, Debbie Dzekunskas; and his son-in-law, Troy Schutt.

Ernie is survived by his beloved wife, Gloria, whom he married in 1973. He leaves behind his cherished children: Kelly Schutt, Scott Rushing, Kari (John) Andrew, and Luke (Gina) Rushing; his loving stepdaughter, Vickie McKenzie (Cal); 12 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers, David (Marsha) Rushing and Jim Rushing, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will hold a private burial at the Rock Island National Cemetery, with a Celebration of Life to be announced at a later date. Memorials may be made to the family in honor of Ernie's memory.

Ernie's legacy of love, laughter, and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by his family and friends.
