Douglas Crawford, a cherished figure known for his vibrant personality and generous spirit, passed away on March 31, 2026, at MercyOne Genesis Silvis Medical Center in Silvis, Illinois. Born on July 7, 1942, in Davenport, Iowa, Douglas lived a life rich with dedication to his family, community, and passions.

A graduate of Rock Island High School’s class of 1961, Douglas earned a football scholarship to Sioux City Falls, Iowa, where he shone as the star quarterback. This early achievement was one of many in a life characterized by both athletic prowess and a commitment to personal excellence.

Douglas was a self-employed electrical contractor who proudly owned Baer Electric Company, which he acquired in the late 70’s. Under his leadership, the company flourished until his retirement in 1987. His commitment to the electrical trade extended beyond his business, as evidenced by his service on the board for local electrical contractors. His professional legacy is marked by both entrepreneurship and community involvement.

Known for his outgoing nature and as a veritable “people person,” Douglas possessed a happy-go-lucky demeanor coupled with an exceptionally giving heart. He was well regarded as a good father and a great grandfather, traits that reflected the core of his character. Those who knew him often remembered his love for car racing and his enthusiastic support for football and other sports. He particularly cherished time spent with his family, delighting in attending his granddaughter Kayla’s bowling tournaments and watching his son race stock cars.

Douglas's proudest accomplishments included his induction into the Racer's Hall of Fame at the East Moline Speedway, a tribute to his passion and impact on the racing community.

He is survived by his loving son, Craig (Lisa) Crawford, and daughter, Shelly Crawford-Norton. He is also fondly remembered by his siblings, Lee (Janet) Crawford, Terry (Diane) Crawford, and Mike (Debbie) Crawford. His grandchildren, Kacie Davis, Chase Crawford, and Kayla (Zac Tackett) Crawford; Nick (Cheyenne) Norton; Breanna (Alex) Wise; Zack (Rachel) Norton; his daughter-in-law, Teri Crawford, and the mother of his children, Linda Diller, carry forward his legacy. He is also remembered by numerous nieces and nephews who were part of his extended family circle.

Douglas was preceded in death by his parents, Forest and Naomi (Veverka) Crawford, his son Tom Crawford, his son-in-law, Bill Norton, and his paternal and maternal grandparents.

A visitation to honor his memory will take place at Wendt Funeral Home, located at 1811 15th Street Place in Moline, Illinois, on Thursday, April 2, 2026, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., followed immediately by a memorial service at 6:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Dementia Society of America.

Douglas Crawford’s life was a testament to the values of hard work, family devotion, and community spirit. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege to know him.

Family and friends are encouraged to share stories, memories, and messages of comfort on his tribute page at www.wendtfuneralhome.com.
