IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Dale
Riggins
March 11, 1940 – January 27, 2026
Dale Roger Riggins, 85, of Moline, Illinois, died on January 27, 2026, at Silvis Center Nursing, Rehab and Care, under hospice care and surrounded by family.
He was born on March 11, 1940, in Stronghurst, Illinois, the son of Clarence and Hazel Riggins, and graduated from Aledo High School in 1958. Dale served in the United States Army from 1959 to 1962, stationed in Germany and Texas. He married Sandra J. Riggins on October 21, 1967, and they spent 56 years together.
Dale spent his career as a member of Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 25, where he took pride in his trade and the work he did. He enjoyed maintaining his home and yard and spent many hours keeping both in good shape. His dog, Samson, was a constant companion. In his later years, his cat Gus kept him company, and he found comfort in the quiet moments spent observing nature and sitting on his deck or beneath the hemlock tree in his backyard. He loved going out for breakfast, a good laugh, and he had a genuine and generous love for people.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his sister, Fern Farmer; his brother, Robert Riggins; his sister-in-law, Barbera Lundberg; and his brothers-in-law, Dr. Leo Lundberg and Larry Hartman.
He is survived by his children: Kim McKellar (Richard) of San Diego, California; Daniel Riggins (Catherine) of Big Bear Lake, California; Dr. Ronald Riggins (Amy) of Moline, Illinois; and Carrie Pheiffer (Steve) of Fraser, Michigan. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Olivia Halom (Ben), Isaac Riggins, Samuel Riggins, Anna Riggins, Grace McCune (Dillon), and Abigail Pheiffer; his great-grandson, Desmond McCune; his brother, Jerry Riggins; his sister, Karen Hartman; special nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews.
In keeping with his wishes, no service will be held. A private burial at Rock Island National Cemetery is scheduled for a later date. Memorials may be made to the Quad City Animal Welfare Center, Milan, IL.
The family would like to thank his personal physicians and care teams, along with the physicians, nurses, and staff at UnityPoint Health-Trinity Rock Island, UnityPoint Hospice, and Silvis Center Nursing, Rehab, and Care. Their care was compassionate and confident throughout his final months. A special thank-you is extended to his sister, Karen Hartman, and her family for the love and care they provided and to his niece, Rose Fugate, for her love and care while on double duty at Silvis Center.
Family and friends are invited to share memories and condolences on his memory page at www.wendtfuneralhome.com.
