We honor and remember the life of Clarence “David” Whitesell, who passed away on February 4, 2026, at UnityPoint Hospital in Rock Island. Born on February 20, 1941, in Rock Island, David leaves behind a legacy of dedication, love, and quiet strength.

David graduated from Rock Island High School in 1959 and immediately answered the call of duty, joining the United States Army. This early commitment to service marks the beginning of a life characterized by hard work and perseverance. After proudly serving his country, David embarked on a long and fulfilling career at International Harvester Farmall, where he worked as a machine operator for 27 years before retiring.

In his personal life, David was known for his quiet demeanor, yet those who knew him appreciated his sense of humor and his keen ability to observe the world around him. He had a profound love for his family, embodying the role of a calm and patient father and an adoring grandfather. His proudest accomplishments were rooted in his family life, where he found immense joy and fulfillment.

David’s interests extended beyond his family and reflected his hands-on nature and appreciation for craftsmanship. He enjoyed firearms, and he had a deep love for vintage and collector automobiles. David took great pride in working on classic cars and especially enjoyed attending car shows, where he could admire the vehicles and share conversations with fellow enthusiasts.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Sandy Whitesell, whom he married on October 14, 1983. David is also cherished by his children, Shalyn Kincaid, Petie (Dennis) Coffman, and Chad Denney, as well as his grandchildren, Austin (Katie) Coffman, Amanda Coffman, Lucas Kincaid, Gavin Denney, and Hunter Kincaid. His legacy continues through his great-grandchildren, Azlynn Coffman, Hayzen Coffman, and Elijah Coffman, bringing him endless pride and happiness. He is further survived by his brother, Jeff (Vinia) Sauser.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence David Whitesell, Sr., and Elizabeth Sauser, his stepfather, John Sauser, his sister, Vicki Whitesell, and his brother, Brad Whitesell.

David will be profoundly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him. He leaves behind a rich tapestry of memories, woven into the hearts of his family and friends, reminding us of the enduring impact he made through his quiet presence and unwavering love.
