Celebration of Life

3:00 - 6:00 pm (Central time)
Christian Payne, born on November 23, 1999, in Galesburg, Illinois, passed away unexpectedly on March 30, 2026, in Rock Island, Illinois. His life, though brief, was marked by a vibrant spirit and a heart full of kindness that touched all who knew him.
Christian worked diligently at Stashus and took on numerous side jobs as a laborer, demonstrating a strong work ethic that complemented his vibrant personality. Known for his sense of humor, kindness, and stubborn determination, he was a unique soul who brought light to both the ordinary and the extraordinary moments of life.
Those who knew Christian remember him vividly not only for his infectious laughter but also for his accident-prone nature, which often left him with stitches. Despite these mishaps, his resilience and good humor never wavered. His love for animals was boundless, reflecting a deep compassion that extended beyond human connections. He also cherished his time fishing, playing basketball, and indulging in his love for gambling, interests that allowed him to express his lively and adventurous spirit.
Christian’s family was a cornerstone in his life. He is survived by his father, Brad Hessell Jr. (Heather Grunewald), and his mother, Trisha Payne (Sean McDaniel). He also leaves behind his beloved siblings: Hanna Payne, Camryn Payne, and Landon Hessell. His grandparents, Chris and Carl Johnson; grandfather, Brad Hessel Sr.; and great-grandmother, June Hessel, along with several aunts, uncles, and cousins, carry forward the legacy of love and warmth that Christian so generously shared.
A Celebration of Life in honor of Christian Payne will be held at Wendt Funeral Home, located at 1811 15th Street Place in Moline, Illinois, on April 7, 2026. The gathering will begin at 3:00 PM and conclude at 6:00 PM. This will be a time for family, friends, and all who were touched by Christian’s presence to come together and remember a young man whose humor, kindness, and stubborn spirit remain forever etched in their hearts.
Christian’s journey reminds us of the beauty found in life’s vibrant complexities—the joy, the trials, and the enduring love. Though he is no longer with us, his memory shines brightly, a beacon of warmth and laughter that continues to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him.
Family and friends are encouraged to share stories, memories, and messages of comfort on his tribute page at www.wendtfuneralhome.com.
