Charlotte Rodemeyer, 91, of Moline, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 28, 2026, at her home, surrounded by her loving family.
Charlotte Sherwood was born on September 7, 1935, in Winona, Minnesota, to Asa and Mildred (Helderman) Sherwood. She graduated from Rock Island High School with the Class of 1953. On June 7, 1953, she married Marlin Rodemeyer in Rock Island, Illinois. He preceded her in death on June 7, 2021.
Charlotte devoted twenty-five years of service to the Rock Island/Milan School District, where she worked as a secretary at W.L. Eddy Elementary School, Rock Island High School and Eugene Field Elementary School. Her years of service brought her great enjoyment and pride. She treasured every opportunity to assist students, teachers, staff and parents, and her caring nature, helpful spirit, and welcoming presence touched many lives throughout the district.
She was a faithful member of the Lutheran faith, most recently at Risen Christ Lutheran Church in Davenport, Iowa. Charlotte enjoyed working crossword puzzles, attending musicals at Circa, and spending time with her beloved dog, Lucy. Above all, Charlotte loved her family and found great fulfillment in helping others.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters, Sheila Rodemeyer of Moline and Gretchen Embry of Rock Island; her son, Augie (Wendy) Rodemeyer of Mineral, Illinois; her sisters, Ina Kay Romanelli of Denver, Colorado; and Aceine Allen of Rock Island; her grandchildren, Adam Karl Rodemeyer, Alexis Holtzer, and Barret Embry; great-grandchildren, Alex Berhenke and Anastasia Potter; and two great-great-grandsons.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Marlin; her son, Karl Rodemeyer; her parents; her brother, Bob; her sisters, Barbara Francescon and Velma Koester; and her son-in-law, Keith Embry.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at Wendt Funeral Home in Moline, Illinois. Visitation will be held before the service, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Memorials may be made in Charlotte’s honor to Shriner’s Hospitals for Children, a charity dear to her heart.
Charlotte will be remembered for her kindness, devotion to her family, and the many lives she brightened through her years of service at Rock Island High School. Charlotte’s clever nature and quick wit remained with her until the very end, bringing smiles and laughter to those fortunate enough to spend time with her.
