Carol Ann Miles was born on June 15, 1939, in the vibrant city of Boston, MA, and she left this world on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at Genesis MercyOne in Davenport, IA.
Carol was the cherished daughter of Frederick and Josephine Miles and grew up in the close-knit community of Winthrop, MA. After graduating from Winthrop High School, she pursued further education at the Katharine Gibbs School, which empowered women to excel in their careers. It was during her time working at Fort Banks Military Defense Post in Winthrop that she met the love of her life, Frank, and together they created a beautiful family in Rock Island, IL.
On October 25, 1958, she and Frank exchanged vows, marking the beginning of a profound partnership and a life dedicated to family. Carol’s true passion was nurturing her five children, but she also had an adventurous spirit. She enjoyed tennis and shopping and poured her heart into charitable work, reflecting her generous nature. As an active member of the Junior Board of Rock Island, the King's Daughters, and P.E.O. Sisterhood, Carol built lasting friendships and contributed selflessly to her community. Her competitive edge shone brightly in the multiple bridge clubs she participated in for over 60 years.
Carol’s greatest joy was found in her family. Together with her beloved husband, Frank, she created countless treasured memories with their children and grandchildren. She especially cherished the winter months at their second home in Sarasota, Florida, where she found peace in the sunshine and warmth.
She is lovingly remembered by her children: Michael (Kitka) Galvin, David Galvin, Stephanie (Dan) Oliver, John (Jennifer) Galvin, and Ted (Carmen) Galvin. Her memory will forever be etched in the hearts of her grandchildren: Jessie (Kelsey), Tatiana Galvin (Mike Pruitt), Taylor (Sam Camus) Galvin, Nikki, Ted (Katie), Becca Galvin, Kate Oliver, Samantha and Adam Galvin, and Phillip Lindberg; her brothers, Stephen Miles and Ron Miles; her three great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews who adored her.
Carol was preceded in death by her loving husband, her parents, her grandson Jeffrey Oliver, and her siblings Al Miles, Fred Miles, and Leonore Quigley, as well as a sister-in-law, Marilyn Miles.
A graveside service to honor her remarkable life will be held at 9:00 AM on Friday, September 19, 2025, at the Rock Island National Cemetery. Those who wish to join in the procession are kindly asked to gather at 8:30 AM at Wendt Funeral Home in Moline, IL. A heartfelt funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM at Wendt Funeral Home, with a visitation from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM that same day. A luncheon to celebrate Carol’s life and the wonderful memories shared will be held directly after the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Junior Board of Rock Island or The Women's Choice Center, Bettendorf, IA.
