Birt F. Stanley, 82, of Gordo, AL, formerly of the Quad Cities, passed away Friday, September 4, 2009, at Picken County Medical Center in Carrollton, AL. Visitation will be Thursday, September 10th, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., at Wendt Funeral Home in Moline, IL. Services will be Friday, September 11th, at 11:00 a.m., at the funeral home. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens in East Moline, IL. Memorials may be sent to the family. Birt Flavous Stanley was born in Vernon, AL, on February 16, 1927, to Johnny and Sarah (Wheeler) Stanley. On January 25, 1953, he married Elva Lucille Burns, who preceded him in death February 14, 1994. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He retired, after 35 years, from the Shipping Department at the Rock Island Arsenal in Rock Island, IL. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, and playing cards. Survivors include, his daughter: Debbra (Roger) Graham of Davenport, IA; two sons: Greg Stanley, and Travis (Geri) Stanley, all of East Moline, IL; a sister: Sarah Aileen Woolbright of Reform, AL; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews and friends. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, six sisters, and four brothers. The family would like to thank the Salem Nursing and Rehab Center in Reform, AL, and the staff at the Pickens County Medical Center in Carrollton, AL, for their wonderful care and concern.
