Gustav A. Heinrich, 89, of East Moline, IL, died Tuesday, February 12, 2013, at Genesis - Illini Campus in Silvis, IL.

Private funeral services will be held at Wendt Funeral Home in Moline, IL. Military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post #246 of Moline. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens in East Moline.

Memorials may be made to American Legion Post #246.

Gustav A. Heinrich was born at Sunbury, IA, on November 1, 1923, to Wilhelm and Clara (Wendel) Heinrich. On Decemter 28, 1968, in Rio, IL, he married Evelyn I. Beckwith, who preceded him in death January 27, 2006.

Gus was a truck driver for 56 years, traveling coast-to-coast in the United States, and into Canada, and for a time, he played baseball for the Boston Red Sox Farm Team. He was a member of Moline American Legion Post 246 for 72 years. Gus enjoyed fishing, deer hunting, and stock-car racing.

Survivors include: daughter: Sheila (Robert) Geiger of Orion; son: Michael (Cheryl) Heinrich of Camdenton, MO; sisters: Arlene Darnell of Durant, IA, and Dorothy (Robert) Garrison of Davenport, IA; brother: Richard (Lois) Heinrich of Oregon; four grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wives, four brothers, and one grandson.
