Charles Holmgren, age 91, of Moline, IL, passed away Wednesday, May 9, 2012, at Trinity Medical Center in Rock Island, IL.

Visitation will be Monday, May 14th, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., at Wendt Funeral Home in Moline. Services will be Tuesday, May 15th, at 10:30 a.m., at First Lutheran Church, 1230 - 5th Avenue, Moline. Burial will be at National Cemetery on Arsenal Island in Rock Island. Military Rites will be accorded by American Legion Post #246.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Lutheran Church in Moline.

Charles M. Holmgren was born in Moline on January 11, 1921, to Raymond and Mildred (Kronholm) Holmgren. On June 2, 1946, in Moline, he married Ada Colleen Brady who preceded him in death on May 23, 2005.

He graduated from Moline High School, and served in the U.S. Army in WWII from 1942 to 1946. He was employed at John Deere Harvester in East Moline, IL, retiring February 1, 1980, as a Senior Buyer.

He was a life-long member of First Lutheran Church, Moline High-12, Moline Vikings, Rock Island County Historical Society, and was a 32-degree Mason of the Scottish Rite Valley of Moline.

Survivors include: daughters: Janelle (Paul) Sammarco of Des Plaines, IL, and Judith (Gary) Sanberg of Kirkwood, IL; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Bennett, and a son, Jeffrey.
