JoAnn E Sweet

JoAnn E. Sweet, 74, of Rapids City, IL, passed away Saturday, April 14, 2012, at her home, surrounded by her loving family.

Per her request, cremation rites wilil be accorded. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, April 18th, at 1:30 p.m., at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 1107 Tanglefoot Lane, Bettendorf, IA. Arrangements are being handled by Wendt Funeral Home in Moline, IL.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Redeemer Lutheran Church in Bettendorf, IA, or to the August W. Kjellstrand Memorial Fund at Augustana College, Rock Island, IL.

JoAnn E. Kappler was born in Moline on December 14, 1937, to Melvin and Edna (Kjellstrand) Kappler. On May 14, 1958, in Moline, she married James B. Sweet, who survives.

She graduated from Moline High School, and attended Augustana College in Rock Island. Prior to her retirement in 1999, she was an integral part in the family businesses of restaurants, marina and boatyard.

She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, the former Moline Junior Service League, and the Rock Island VNA Junior Board. She especially loved her home on the river. She cherished her family, and was thankful for the times together.

In addition to her husband, survivors include: daughter: Lori (Glen) Bentley of Davenport, IA; son: David (Lori) Sweet of Moline; brother: Richard (Kassie) Kappler of McHenry, IL; grandchildren: Julie and Lisa Bentley, and Emily Sweet; stepgrandchildren: Jake and Cambri; and nephews: Scott Kappler family of Palatine, IL, and Steve Kappler family of Cedar Rapids, IA.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
